In our Charak Sahita it is said that excessive anger, grief and exertions make the body hot and the heat of the body goes up towards head and this heat pollutes the body and its results in graying of hair.
Most of the people think that graying hair is the sign of aging but most of the people also get early gray hair and that is the most disturbing thing and then they color or dye their hair. Graying of hair is the loss or lack of normal pigments that is called melanin. Once the melanin is reduced the hair become gray .In some people grayness of hair appears suddenly while in others it is gradual. Sometimes it affects only a small part or become more or less and this change noted is progressive or permanent. In most people it starts from head, near forehead and then the beard. Sometimes graying of hair is noted sudden and this may be due to unhealthy mental condition, deficiency of nutrition, anxiety, panic and sorrow.
In some people few patches of hair shown as grey and this condition is called Ringed hair’.
Premature graying of hair may be genetic or acquired. In Ayurveda the condition of graying hair is called pilitya and mentioned its reasons like anger and mental stress.

Generally we got worried when we see child turns gray hair but one or two gray hair is not to be worried about but if it is turning in gray continuously then the treatment is essential because it might be related to malnutrition, fever imbalance hormones, poor scalp and genetic and in this case hair products like shampoos, oils and hair tools should be used carefully .
Causes of gray hair
· Graying of hair is also caused by genetic but this effect of gray hair is not found in all the members of the family.
· In some cases, gray hair is caused by sun exposures.
· Smoking can damage and shrink the quality of hair follicles and can increase oxidative stress that can damage melanin.
· Chronic sinsuits and chronic cold are also stated to be reasons for the premature graying hair.
· Even frequent washing of hair from warm water is also caused graying hair but is not confirmed by many dermatologists.
· Graying of hair also can be a symptom of diseases like leucoderma, thyroid, vitiligo and alopecia areata.
· It can also arise from disorder of nervous system.
· In premature gray hair may trigger by many factors like worry, mental distress, trauma, overwork and general disturbance .
· Deficiency of vitamin can lead gray hair but it can be reversed by taking supplements.
